I'd like to comment on the poor quality of the life preserver rings along the Love River.
I jumped into the river on January 17th to rescue a drowning woman after throwing a life ring near her. Once I got to the wall with the help of another person pulling us in............I then had nothing to hold onto while waiting for rescue people to get us out. The life ring (although light enough to throw 10+ meters)...was not enough to keep the woman floating high enough in the water........nor support any of my weight. I asked the person on the other end of the rope to pull it up just a little to help get her head further above water............and then the life ring broke into 4 pieces!!!
I then had to hold the rope only... with the woman in my other arm while waitng to get pulled out of the river by rescue people.
Because of the poor quality and floatation ability of these life rings----I would never dare try to rescue someone from the Love river again.
I hope the city can put some better quality life rings and also life vests along the river.
Sincerely....P |
